Preparing for an IWCF certification can raise a lot of technical questions.
Sometimes you understand the theory but get stuck on a calculation.
Sometimes a pressure trend doesn't make sense.
Sometimes you know what equipment does, but you're not sure why a particular well control decision is correct.
And sometimes you simply want an experienced instructor to explain a difficult concept in a different way.
That's why WellWise Consultancy has introduced “Ask a WellWise Instructor.”
Through this initiative, IWCF candidates can send their technical questions to WellWise—even if they are attending their IWCF training somewhere else.
If your question can be answered directly, our instructor will provide an explanation.
If your question requires a more detailed discussion, or if several candidates have the same question, we will organise a free online instructor session to explain the topic.
There is no additional charge for this support.
One of the most important things about Ask a WellWise Instructor is that you do not have to be enrolled with WellWise to participate.
You may be:
You can still Ask a WellWise Instructor.
Our objective is simple:
If you have a genuine technical question, we want to help you understand it.
This approach is consistent with WellWise's broader focus on developing technical understanding and operational competence rather than simply helping candidates memorise answers. WellWise Consultancy
Your question can be about almost any technical area relevant to your IWCF preparation.
You can ask about topics such as:
For example:
“Why does this pressure change indicate an influx?”
or:
“How do I approach this kill-sheet calculation?”
or:
“What is the difference between MAASP and formation pressure?”
These are exactly the types of questions where a technical explanation can make a difficult subject much easier to understand.
You can also ask questions related to IWCF Well Intervention Pressure Control.
Topics can include:
WellWise already provides dedicated IWCF Well Intervention training covering coiled tubing, wireline and snubbing concepts, with an emphasis on pressure control and barrier management. WellWise Consultancy
The process is simple.
Send us your IWCF-related technical question.
You don't need to write a long explanation.
Simply tell us:
What are you finding difficult?
For example:
“I don't understand why the pressure increases during this scenario.”
or:
“Can someone explain this kill-sheet calculation?”
A WellWise instructor reviews the question and determines the best way to explain it.
Some questions can be answered quickly.
Others need a more detailed explanation.
For straightforward questions, we will reply with an explanation.
Where the subject requires more discussion, we may group candidates with similar questions and organise an online instructor meeting.
The purpose isn't simply to give you an answer.
It is to help you understand:
What is happening → Why it is happening → How you should approach the problem.
This is particularly important for IWCF preparation because understanding the underlying well control principle is much more useful than memorising isolated answers.
This is where Ask a WellWise Instructor becomes particularly useful.
Imagine several candidates are struggling with the same topic:
Instead of answering the same question individually several times, WellWise can organise an online instructor session for candidates who have the same or similar doubt.
The session is provided free of charge.
This gives candidates the opportunity to hear the explanation directly from an instructor and, importantly, ask follow-up questions.

Candidates are encouraged to submit their questions in advance so that the instructor can prepare the discussion and group similar questions together.
The session can cover questions related to:
Well Control • Calculations • Kick Detection • Barriers • Pressure Control • Well Intervention • Coiled Tubing • Wireline • Slickline • Snubbing • Well Control Scenarios • Exam Concepts
One of the biggest mistakes candidates can make is assuming that they should simply memorise the correct answer.
Well control is fundamentally about understanding pressure, barriers, equipment and decisions.
For example, knowing that a particular answer is correct is useful.
But understanding why it is correct is much more valuable.
Consider a simple question:
Why did the pressure increase?
A candidate who memorises one answer may struggle when the scenario changes.
A candidate who understands the relationship between:
Pressure → Hydrostatic Head → Formation Pressure → Wellbore Conditions → Barrier Status
can reason through a new scenario.
That is the type of understanding we want candidates to develop.
WellWise's existing training approach similarly emphasises structured learning, practical scenarios and instructor guidance rather than relying solely on examination memorisation. WellWise Consultancy
Calculations are often one of the areas where candidates have the most questions.
You can ask about:
For example:
“I understand the formula, but I don't understand which depth I should use.”
That's a good question.
The instructor can explain not only the calculation but also the reasoning behind selecting the appropriate input.
IWCF questions aren't always simply:
“What is the definition of X?”
You may encounter situations where you need to interpret information and determine the appropriate response.
For example:
The pumps are stopped, but the well continues to flow.
What does this tell you?
Or:
The pit volume increases unexpectedly during drilling.
What could this indicate?
Or:
Surface pressure changes during a well control operation.
What should you consider?
These types of questions require you to connect several well control principles.
If you are struggling with a scenario, send it to us.
Don't wait until the day before your examination to ask questions.
If something doesn't make sense during your preparation, resolve the doubt while you still have time to understand and practise the concept.
A good study habit is:
Understand → Question → Discuss → Practise → Apply
rather than:
Memorise → Forget → Guess
This initiative is useful for:
And again, you do not need to be attending a WellWise course to ask a question.
It's simple.
Include:
1. Your questionTell us what you don't understand.
2. The topic, if knownFor example: Hydrostatic Pressure, Kick Detection, MAASP, CT, Wireline, etc.
3. Any relevant calculation or scenarioIf your question comes from a problem you are working through, include the information needed to understand the problem.
Our team will review the question and determine whether it can be answered directly or whether it would benefit from a detailed instructor discussion.
At WellWise Consultancy, we believe that technical training should not stop when the classroom session ends.
Candidates should have an opportunity to clarify difficult concepts, discuss scenarios and strengthen their understanding.
That's the idea behind:
You ask the question. We help you understand the answer.
And if several candidates are facing the same challenge, we bring the instructor and candidates together for a free online discussion.
Don't keep the doubt to yourself.
Send your question to the WellWise team and let us help you work through it.
